Switch It Up

When my cousin sold her house last month, the buyers put a special request in their contract asking that my cousin and her husband leave all the switchplates they'd placed all over the house. It sounds like a strange request unless you've seen all the super-cool switchplates they've collected over the years.

Unfortunately for the buyer, they were way too attached to their collection to leave it behind, but there is good news for them and others (like you!) looking for a little flair on your walls- Etsy's Emporium Michelle!

This Portland, Maine-based shop features loads of one-of-a-kind handmade decoupaged lightswitch and outlet plates made by local artist Michelle Souliere. The switchplates are made from found vintage magazine and book imagery and text. The combinations of vintage ads and text result in little vignettes that range from funny to downright strange...which I guess isn't so surprising as Michelle is also a contributor at the Strange Maine blog and editor of the Strange Maine Gazette. At about $10 apiece, they're an easy and inexpensive way to add some color and fun to your room.
