Etsy Maine Team Crafters Coming Together For A Good Cause

October 27, 2008

Waterville, Maine

Etsy’s MaineTeam has come together to host a craft fair for a good cause. On Saturday, December 13th from 10am-3pm the Etsy MaineTeam will host a Craft/Art Fair at the Forum, located at 93 Main Street in Waterville, Maine. The fair will offer crafts, pottery, prints, cards, jewelry and more from team members who are all Maine crafters and artisans. There will be much to see and all of the proceeds from the entrance fees will go to the Freshwater Arts and Waterville Main Street, a non-profit art center in Waterville, Maine.

The Etsy MaineTeam is a group that has been formed in the past year and has over 200 online shops. The commonality is that all of the shops sell their items on Etsy.com. Etsy.com is an online marketplace for buying & selling all things handmade. The only requirements to join the MaineTeam are that you must live and craft in Maine and sell your items on Etsy.com. The MaineTeam shops offer a variety unique, handmade and vintage items and crafting supplies such as pottery, children’s items, paper goods, clothing, house wares, art, woodworking and more.

Etsy’s tagline is “Buy, Sell, and Live Handmade”. Since Etsy's launch, it has gained more than 750,000 members and currently has about 100,000 sellers from around the world that have opened up Etsy shops. On a given day, 15,000 items are sold and 20,000 new items are listed. Etsy also allows sellers to offer vintage items and crafting supplies. Etsy provides the sellers and the teams with the tools they need to promote themselves and to gain awareness to their own shops, which in turn brings awareness back to the site as a whole.

Etsy’s philosophy encourages the sellers to form groups through commonalities such as the items they sell, characteristic traits they have in common, or geography. Living and selling in Maine is what triggered the formation of the MaineTeam. MaineTeam member Kim Brennan says “The MaineTeam is so excited to have a holiday craft fair that allows the residents of Maine to see the variety of handmade and vintage goods and crafting supplies offered in our state. We are especially pleased to be able to share the proceeds from the entry fees with such a wonderful charity.”

Etsy MaineTeam brings over 200 Maine based crafters together to cross promote and sell their handmade and vintage item,s and supplies. The team is made up of shops that all sell their work on etsy.com. The team was formed in 2008 and works to bring awareness of handmade items and artisans to Maine and beyond. For more information and a list of the shops go to EtsyMaineTeam.blogspot.com or to etsy.com and type “MaineTeam” in the search box.

Etsy.com was founded in 2005 in Brooklyn, NY by a group of 20 something guys who have the mission ”to enable people to make a living making things, and to reconnect makers with buyers.” Today, the site has over 100,000 shops and over 750,000 registered members. Etsy has become a prevelant online community. www.etsy.com
