Oh Baby!

A good friend of mine recently shared that she is pregnant (again! yay!) and suddenly I find myself drawn to all of the incredible handmade-for-baby items on etsy. If you scroll through the shop list on the right, you'll quickly find that some of the site's most talented crafters are neighbors of ours, based right here in the great state of Maine!

One shop that really caught my eye this morning is BlueBirdBaby. Erin, the mama bird of the shop, finds inspiration for her adorable clothes though her own baby bird, seen here wearing the Denim Knickers with Button Closures and the Natural Linen Summer Top:

She makes the clothes using her own patterns, sometimes taking many hours to make one size, and uses all-natural fabrics, like linen and denim, that can stand up to all the adventurous playtime a kid can throw at them. Some of her pieces are based on vintage patterns and feature vintage fabric swatches that make them all the more unique and eco-friendly.

This green philosophy extends beyond the BlueBirdBaby shop- Erin's family lives on 8 acres in a solar home and is currently planning a cooperative vegetable garden project with nearby friends.
